What’s in the Woods Today? October 12, 2018

Wind Damage

Last night was not a good night for sleeping in southeastern Virginia.  The storms rolled through after dark, so we could only wonder what all the thumps and bumps meant.  When I woke up this morning, I found a clump of three trees that had blown down in the woods next to our garden.

On the bright side, I guess the frogs will have a new pond underneath the root ball of the fallen water oak.

This pecan tree (below) might start growing faster and produce some nuts for wildlife.

And maybe this nearby longleaf pine (below) that I planted a few years ago will decide it has enough sunshine to start growing.

It is a quieter pace today without electricity, and here’s wishing the best for all of the powerline crews out there working for many safe days ahead.
